MORAINE
A trio tracing the memory of a world in transformation.

The project
MORAINE interweaves dance, music and visual arts to explore the relationship between body, landscape, identity and collective memory in a world undergoing profound climatic and social change.
The dancers inhabit a constantly changing landscape, evoked through bodies and images of glaciers, water, rocks and sediment. Their presence intertwines with the voices and testimonies of Alpine communities experiencing the effects of climate change first-hand, giving shape to a living, shifting archive of memories, gestures and knowledge rooted in place.
In a present marked by aggression, polarisation and uncertainty, MORAINE emerges as an act of gentle resistance, a political and poetic gesture: not passive resistance, but the capacity to care, listen, pass on knowledge, build connections and imagine new forms of balance together.

The performance
MORAINE grows out of a desire to give physical form to the climate emergency, inviting us to turn vulnerability into a possibility for connection, so that new roots can emerge even in places most deeply marked by loss.
A moraine is what remains after a glacier retreats: an accumulation of debris, a geological trace, a mineral archive of something that is no longer there. What remains of a landscape when its shape has changed? Which gestures, forms of knowledge, rituals and memories survive when a place loses its original substance?
“Imagine the day when the glacier parts from the last snowflake, which slips away with the drops of water. What a silent cry it must give, finding itself nothing but a field of stones.”Fabrizio Caramagna · translated from Italian

Collaborations
In MORAINE, a direct dialogue with the dancers generates an ever-changing landscape of glaciers, deep waters, mineral traces, mountain communities and visions of places after flooding.
The musical component, developed with German performer and musician Philipp Charpit, weaves together voice, electronics and sounds gathered from the landscape, creating a sonic environment that explores shifts between presence and absence, solidity and uncertainty.

Philipp Charpit is a German performer and musician who has lived in the Netherlands since 2012. He uses the voice as the central expressive instrument in the soundscapes he composes and produces. In 2023 and 2024, his work was supported by a two-year grant from the Municipality of Groningen, where he lives.
Costumes
Costumes created in collaboration with Accademia Unidee — Fondazione Pistoletto. White forms, layered fabrics and suspended elements create a stage presence that hovers between figure, landscape and matter.
